While it is an assertion that extreme sports are life-threatening and therefore should be proscribed, I will say this statement is not logical enough due to the irrelevant connection between the premise and conclusion.
There seems to be reasons as to why dangerous sports warrant a ban. From those who think in this way, they assume that activities such as skydiving or skiing are more likely to cause serious injuries, providing the locations where the activities take place, whether these be the edge of cliff or remoted mountain areas, where rescue services are hard to reach. To complicate matters even more, the excitement of embracing life-threatening challenges is a magnet to young minds: researches shows that over 50% of respondents express their curiosity about thrilling experiences regardless of the probability of getting hurt.
Plausible though the above statement seems, those decrying extreme sports are oblivious to the lack of causal links between their conclusion and premise – the apprehension about safety is not justified enough to entail the demise of extreme sports. The potential risks mentioned above can be avoided by various measures. For example, the government can legislate for training sessions for all participants of sky diving or skiing; other protective measures consist of backup parachutes and the company of coaches – all these approaches serve to reduce the potential risks. Given these alternative options, it is unnecessary to ban dangerous sports solely because of the safety worry.
In conclusion, it is my conclusion therefore, it is simplistic to appeal for prohibition on dangerous sport activities simply due to the safety concern while ignoring alternative solutions.
